From a Small Village to a Global Stage
SM Sazzad Ul Islam’s story begins in a small village of Kamarol, Khulna in Bangladesh, where he grew up dreaming of making a difference. As a high school student, he was already driven by a desire to help his community. His journey from these humble beginnings to becoming a global leader is nothing short of inspiring. When he was in Dhanmondi Govt. Boys’ High school he and his friends started the frist ever science club of their high school and also got Scholarship in SSC.Then during his time in Notre Dame College, Dhaka he was involved with the Notre Dame College Nature Study Club, Notre Dame College Debate and Math Club.
A Turning Point During the Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic was a challenging time for many, but for Sazzad, it was also a turning point. He saw the struggles of street children who were hit hard by the crisis. Determined to help, he took action. Working with the organization "One Taka Ahar," Sazzad managed to provide food for over 10,000 street children. This initiative not only offered them nourishment but also brought them a sense of hope during an incredibly tough period.
Building a Foundation for Change
While studying agriculture at Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh, Sazzad didn’t let his academic life stop him from making a difference. He started two nonprofit organizations that aimed to tackle major global issues.

**Waste2Hope**: This organization focuses on solving problems related to waste management. Sazzad’s goal was to find creative ways to recycle and manage waste, helping to keep the environment clean.This organization now has more than 13 local committees in all over Bangladesh and also have 4 international Chapters Such as Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria and Italy **KSF Agro Farm**: This initiative promotes sustainable farming practices. It encourages young people to engage in farming that is both environmentally friendly and efficient, making agriculture more resilient to climate change and it works like a network of young agri entreprenaurs to help each other in production, processing and marketing their products as well as they get a first hand support when they face difficulties in their overall process of production. **Creating a Global Impact** Sazzad’s passion for helping others led him to create the "Hopes of Humanity Centre" in partnership with SUSI Alumni (Study of the U.S. Institutes). This organization works in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Ghana, and Nigeria to address climate adaptation, mitigation, and migration issues. **A Life-Changing Experience in the U.S.** Sazzad’s remarkable efforts didn’t go unnoticed. He was selected for the U.S. exchange program, "Study of the U.S. Institute of Global Student Leaders on Climate Change and the Environment." This six-week program was a chance for him to deepen his understanding of climate issues and leadership. During his stay in the U.S., Sazzad visited various cities and locations, including the University of Nevada, Reno, and Lake Tahoe. He learned from top researchers and climatologists, gaining insights into climate science, environmental conservation, and leadership. His activities included kayaking to help clean Lake Tahoe and visiting places like the Pyramid Lake Museum and the Mosquito Abatement Center in New Orleans. He also had the unique opportunity to meet with the Paiute Tribe, learning about their traditional environmental practices and how they protect nature. This experience broadened his perspective and enriched his understanding of diverse approaches to environmental stewardship. **Bringing Knowledge Back Home** Upon returning to Bangladesh, Sazzad used the knowledge and skills he gained to further his projects. He received additional funding from organizations like BYLC, the U.S. State Department, and Meridian International Center to support his "Hopes of Humanity Centre" and expand its impact. Sazzad believes that with a clear plan and dedication, anything is possible. His experiences have taught him that when you set out to make a change, you’re already halfway there. He continues to work with vulnerable and marginalized youth, mentoring them to become future changemakers.
